What is Aptos?

Aptos is a new and independent project that focuses on providing the most secure and available blockchain to a large number of users around the world. Aptos promises to become a layer-1 blockchain, surpassing its two seniors, Ethereum and Solana.

Highlights of Aptos

With quality staff and huge funding from major investors, Aptos has officially launched the Devnet version and is expected to complete the Mainnet in Q3 of 2022.

Aptos' Move programming language is a central highlight of the project. Designed to securely manage resources, and to be verified on the blockchain. Move's static-typing is said to be an improved, much stricter version of Ethereum's smart contract language. Modern programming languages such as Rust, Golang, Typescript, Haskell, Scala, OCaml all choose static-typing because it has the advantage of being able to detect many program errors.

Compared to other programming languages, Move has the ability to manage and verify resources on the Blockchain to ensure safety. When transactions are made, they will have 2 states: implicitly determined and measured.

Identify and hide: Transaction results will be predicted based on available information and the current state of the ledger.
Measurement: Transactions will be “protected” from cyberattacks. In fact, the Aptos Token Blockchain and Move developed at the same time three years ago. Therefore, products on Aptos Token Blockchain, such as: transaction fees, accounts, standard library, validator node management and configuration are deployed in parallel with Move.

The founding team of the Aptos project are former members of Meta (Facebook) company - who used to participate in the development of Diem. It can be said that Aptos is the "eldest child" founded by the team. The head of the case is Mo Shaikh - a former core member of Meta.

Investors & Partners

In March 2022, Aptos raised $200 million from a group of prominent crypto investors. The Aptos funding round was led by Andreessen Horowitz , a venture capital firm that has invested in many crypto startups. Funding also includes participation from Tiger Global, Three Arrows Capital, Multicoin Capital and Coinbase.

Continuously receiving good news, at the end of March 2022, Binance Labs announced that it will become a strategic investor and Aptos will join the BNB Chain family . The combination of the two L1 blockchains will drive technological and business innovation as well as the development of new large-scale Web2 use cases.

The project is accelerating at full speed to push the testnet as well as the mainnet to the public.

2022 Q1 (March 15) – Devnet Launch for Developers

Work with strategic partners and the web3 developer community to gather feedback and implement improvements related to the Move developer experience and the Move language

2022 Q2 – Launching Incentivized Testnet

A larger testing ground and mainnet-like platform for strategic partners and web3 developers to build.
Work with the node operator community to engage and build expertise in operating a decentralized network together.
Start a bug bounty to improve developer experience, node operation, and resolve infrastructure issues.
Providing incentivized alignment for all participants helps secure the network.
